Дневник XIX Менделеевского съезда

You are invited to participate in the XIX Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry which will be held on 25–30 September, 2011in Volgograd. The year 2011 has been proclaimed as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) by the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), under the motto «Chemistry — our life, our future». As part of the IYC, a number of activities on international and national scale will be performed. Events commemorating the award of the Nobel Prize in chemistry to Maria Sklodowska Curie 100 years ago and highlighting the role of women in science will be organized. 2011 also marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies. Along with these IYC events, XIX Mendeleev Congress will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase international cooperation of scientists and their professional unions.

The Mendeleev Congresses are usually conducted every four—five years in world-famous scientific and cultural centers of our country. The First Mendeleev Congress was held in Saint-Petersburg in 1907 in commemoration of the great Russian scholar D.I. Mendeleev (1834–1907). Later congresses were held in Moscow, Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg), Kazan, Kharkov, Kiev, Alma-Ata, Baku, Tashkent and Minsk. The previous XVIII Mendeleev Congress was held in 2007 in Moscow to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mendeleev Congress series in Russia. Volgograd was selected as the home city for the next Congress. This is a city with a glorious history and one of the largest centers of chemical industry in Russia. Such companies as JSC «LUKOIL», JSC «EuroChem Mineral and Chemical Company», JSC «NIKOCHEM», JSC «RUSAL» and JSC «Sibur holding» as well as such chemical giants as JSC «Volzhsky Orgsynthez», JSC «Chimprom Volgograd» and others are located in Volgograd and its region.

Traditionally the topics of the scientific program of the Mendeleev Congresses cover the main directions of chemical science, technology, industry and chemical education. These issues will be discussed at the forthcoming Congress as well through plenary and oral sessions, satellite symposia and round table discussions. The program of the Congress includes exhibitions of chemical facilities, equipment, technological developments and chemistry literature.

Leading Russian and foreign scientists including Nobel Prize winners will present plenary lectures.

Russian and foreign companies dealing with the production of chemicals and materials will present their activities.

We will be happy to see you among the participants of the Congress, who will be joined by potential business partners from different enterprises and organizations from Volgograd and the Volgograd region as well as from other parts of Russia.

We hope to see you in Volgograd!
